With a strong background in agriculture and a deep passion for herbal research, Professor Yihuai Gao’s journey began at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. In 1997, he moved to New Zealand, where he joined Landcare Research as a Fungi Scientist. There, he discovered the potential of bioactive compounds to support human well-being, sparking his interest in innovative extraction methods. This led him to create a low-temperature, low-pressure extraction method that decreases the amount of bioactive compounds that are often lost during the extraction process. Driven by the idea of using science for the benefit of the people. Professor Gao went on to become the Founder of Alpha Health Care.

A true entrepreneur at heart, Wei Gao co-founded the business with Professor Gao in classic Kiwi fashion—in their home garage in New Lynn. Like many start-ups, Wei wore many hats in the early days, handling everything from sales and marketing to inventory management and product development. He even personally managed the sales channels from the ground up. These hands-on experiences have since become the solid foundation upon which he has built his career, leading him to his current role as the director of a multinational organization. Wei’s journey from a humble garage in New Lynn to the global stage is a testament to his resilience, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit.
